Rafael Bonachela returns to London with his first new work for BDC since his appointment as Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company.
The Land of Yes and The Land of No premieres in Germany on 18 June and tours throughout the UK from September 2009.
As soon as we leave our homes, we are told what to do and more often what not to do. But these instructions are not only physical, they have emotional resonances which go beyond the literal commands. In The Land of Yes and the Land of No Rafael Bonachela explores this duality and how it affects us.
In developing this new work Bonachela has collaborated with contemporary composer Ezio Bosso. Ezio’s wide range of composition credits include symphonic and chamber works, opera, contemporary cinema, silent films and dance. He has worked internationally with artists including the BalletBoyz, Christopher Wheeldon and Gabriele Salvatores.
He is also working with long-time collaborator designer Alan Macdonald, who is perhaps better known for his film designs with some of Britain’s leading directors, including, The Queen (2006) with Stephen Frears and Edge of Love (2008) with John Maybury.
